What is CAT Exam?

The CAT (Common Admission Test) exam is for admission into postgraduate management programs like the MBA at the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) and over 1,200 other top business schools in India. It tests candidates on their skills in quantitative aptitude, verbal ability, reading comprehension, data interpretation, and logical reasoning, which are essential for management roles. A high score in the CAT is often the first step in securing a spot in a prestigious business school and can lead to better career opportunities.

The exam is a national level exam and its score is accepted by top B-schools other than the IIMs, such as FMS, MDI, IIFT, SPJIMR, GIM, BIMTECH, IIT-DoMs among others. According to Shiksha, over 1300 MBA colleges in India accept CAT scores for MBA admission.


This year, the Common Admission Test (CAT) is being conducted by the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Kozhikode. The IIMs conduct the CAT on a rotational basis, and this year it is IIM Kozhikode's turn.

What is CAT Exam Pattern 2025?

CAT exam pattern 2025 has been prescribed by IIM Kozhikode, the exam convening institute for this year. CAT 2025 exam will be conducted in online mode and the duration will be 120 minutes. The CAT question paper 2025 will have three sections - VARC, DILR and Quantitative Aptitude.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Bachelor's Degree: A bachelor's degree from a recognized university or institution is required.
  • Equivalent Qualification: An equivalent qualification recognized by the Ministry of Education, Government of India is also acceptable.
  • Minimum Marks:
    • General, EWS, and OBC: At least 50% marks or an equivalent CGPA.
    • SC, ST, and PwD: At least 45% marks or an equivalent CGPA.
  • Final Year Students: Students in the final year of their bachelor's program are also eligible to apply.

Other Criteria

  • Age Limit: There is no age limit for the CAT exam.
  • Work Experience: Work experience is not mandatory to appear for the exam, but some B-schools may consider it during admissions.
  • Number of Attempts: There is no restriction on the number of attempts a candidate can make.
