GRE Exam

The GRE (Graduate Record Examinations) is a standardized test required for admission to many graduate and business programs worldwide. It assesses verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, analytical writing, and critical thinking skills. The GRE has two versions: the General Test, which evaluates overall aptitude, and the Subject Tests, which assess knowledge in specific fields such as Mathematics, Physics, and Psychology.

GRE General Test

• Skills Tested: Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning, Analytical Writing
• Purpose: Assesses general skills required for graduate-level studies
• Format: Computer-based; available at test centers and at home
• Duration: Approximately 1 hour and 58 minutes
• Scoring:
  • Verbal Reasoning: 130–170
  • Quantitative Reasoning: 130–170
  • Analytical Writing: 0–6

GRE Subject Tests

• Skills Tested: Undergraduate subject knowledge
• Examples: Mathematics, Physics, Psychology
• Purpose: Evaluates subject-specific achievement for specialized graduate programs
• Format: Computer-delivered exams
• Frequency: Offered multiple times each year

Purpose of the GRE General Test

• Used by universities worldwide (including the US, Canada, and more) to assess readiness for graduate study

Eligibility

• Age: No minimum or maximum age limit
• Nationality: Open to all nationalities
• Academic Qualification: No minimum education requirement
• Identification: Valid government-issued photo ID required (passport recommended for Indian students)
• Attempts: Once every 21 days; maximum five attempts in a 12-month period
• Disability Support: Special accommodations available for eligible candidates
